In their 1997 book The Fourth Turning William Strauss and Neil Howe identified a generational sequence that has held true in Western Civilization for several hundred years, resulting in a societal crisis every fourth generation. And here we are, in the middle of another Fourth Turning, likely to reach critical mass some time between November 5th and January 20th.

A critical feature of each Fourth Turning in US history has been the emergence of a “Gray Champion” – a member of the elder generation who is able to carry the nation on his back through the crisis.

Strauss and Howe emphasize that there is no guarantee that a gray champion will appear at all, or that he will be the person we need to survive the crisis. The only viable candidate who has applied for the job this time is Donald J. Trump. Yes, he is an asshole, and unable to keep himself from saying stupid things when he opens his mouth. Can he possibly be our Gray Champion?

As ridiculous as his verbal stream of consciousness generally is, his first instincts regarding existential matters, from endless wars and undefended borders to Covid and CBDCs are often sound.

Consider what the role of Gray Champion requires in these times. Trump has a monstrous ego and the hide of a rhinoceros. In the face of the colossal state forces arrayed against him, clearly they are necessities. I believe another critical attribute is a vindictive spirit. Inaugural speeches always blather on about “bringing us all together.” That ain’t gonna happen this time, so there’s no point making mouth noises about it. Half the country has been indoctrinated with a fatally perverse and false set of ideas. They can’t be accommodated; they must be defeated and expunged.

If Trump manages to get back into the Oval Office and take on the evil Security State it will not be a tidy affair but, rather, a political Armageddon with lots of collateral damage. Anyone would be crazy to wish for such a thing, but it’s either that or CWII.

Your heart is in the right place,

However, you listen to the media and its ongoing tirade against trump too much. Did you catch him on Gutfeld two nights ago? He is not the asshole you accuse him of being, but a guy you would hang out with in a bar. There is a reason the union members relate to him, they identify with him much better than the Cackler.

He is the Gray Champion you talk about, he, by himself, has led the 50% of the populace that care about traditional America and do not seek its demise.

Years ago I watched an interview with Trump, recorded when he was relatively young (30's?), handsome, successful, confident. The interviewer asked under what circumstances he would enter politics.

Trump replied, words to the effect, that he would only enter politics if the USA was in deep trouble, on its last legs; suffering. The implication of his words was that he would enter politics as a task to be taken up & carried out, for the good of his country , not self aggrandisement.

Trump's the Man. If they don't murder him.

That interview, if it's the same one I'm thinking of, has been making the rounds. Why wouldn't it?

It has been said that 'one man(/woman)' can turn things around, if with a lot of help, but I remain highly skeptical. Alas, many despots had a lot of help running their countries into the ground.

And America seems to have manifested this weird, hard-core sort of irreconcilable bifurcation of its entire population.

Time will tell.

Accusing me of "listening to the media" is hilarious. Trump's actual record as a business man is a matter of legitimate public record,. No, he is not someone I'd like to have as a neighbor, or do business with, and I seriously doubt that he would deign to drink a beer with you. But we can at least agree that he is, in fact, our Gray Champion, and share the hope that he can survive to rescue this country from the cabal that Jim has described so well here.

Well when RFKJr announced his run I thought it might be him. He still might be. All of the Gray Champions cited by Howe and Strauss were upright types, which is not what I'd call Trump. "Upright" in the sense of being in control of themselves. Trump is not in control of himself. He's all over the place. That said, before I get blasted by all the Trump-lovers out there, put me on the record for: If Trump is the Gray Champion I'll take him. Trump is 1,000,000% better than the alternative. I'll take him if he's the Purple Champion, or the Mauve Champion, or the red/white/blue champion. Just not the Blob/Swamp/Cabal champions.

Bobby just got busted having a “texting affair” with a blonde babe “journalist” from I believe New York magazine.

She came out to his and Cheryl’s home in Brentwood to do a smear piece on him. Then he took her on a “hike”.

Supposedly the tryst never got physical, but I’ll betcha the conversation at the breakfast table turned a tad frosty at the Brentwood compound.

Anyhow, Bobby is no Boy Scout. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree etc.

According to his diary, in 2001 alone, Bobby experienced various kinds of extramarital events with 37 different women. Extrapolating over the years puts Bobby at well over 1000 women.

"A (NY)Post reporter who questioned Kennedy ... about the diary was first met with SIX SECONDS OF STUNNED SILENCE.

'I don’t think there is any way you could have a diary or journal of mine from 2001,' Kennedy then said. 'I don’t have any comment on it. I have no diary from 2001.'"

You want to scream when you realize the thing was in our grasp not sixty days ago, that is until Trump stupidly stepped into the first of the dual traps the DNC laid for him: agreeing to debate Joe and thereby providing Nancy and Chuck and the rest of the loathsome corpses running the party a handy pretext to jettison Joe. The second trap was agreeing to debate a former prosecutor who could be counted upon to memorize appealing talking points and deliver them with the smoothness of a lawyer. I love Trump to death but he is really stupid sometimes. My local Republican campaign office here in York, PA closes at 2:00 p m. most days, preventing most working people from stopping in to get a yard sign, that is, when they even have them available. Meanwhile, the Harris-Grampa campaign has virtually unlimited funds and a fresh, attractive, smiling candidate.

And you know the Democrats have the mail-in ballot scheme all worked out. If it's really this close in the polls, I don't see how our hero has a chance. And speaking of RFK, what exactly is he doing to help Trump get elected anyway? He certainly hasn't been in the news other than negatively.

As I said . . . You just want to scream.

If you think Fellatio Harris is attractive, you need new glasses and hearing aids. Her face is fake, with a waxy patina -- just what you'd expect from a phony being peddled by frauds. And her nasal, fried-voice, word salad-spewing, cackling voice -- I'd shoot myself if I had to listen to that voice.

As for Trump's debate situation: what was he supposed to do, duck Biden and look like a coward? He butchered the debate against Harris by not sticking to specific concepts instead of bringing up Persian Tartare and Rottweiler Surprise as Haitian menu items. However, it may not have mattered because everybody seems to have gotten into the trenches beforehand: women, communists, fascists, the government Blob, and the plutocracy behind Harris, and Middle America behind Trump. If you like the idea of your kids or grandkids being spirited off to Minnesota for sex change operations without their parents' consent, as can happen thanks to a bill Tampon Tim signed into law, or having the police raid your house looking for your guns without a warrant or probable cause, then vote Democrat. I saw Donald Trump on Gutfeld the other night. He was very engaging, exhibited a great sense of humor and seemed very comfortable among the other intelligent people on the show. He is a buffoon at times... but, definitely NOT an asshole. President Trump loves his country and it shows every time he makes a speech, has a rally or is interviewed. He genuinely cares about the people he so passionately wants to serve as President. He has been misquoted, lied about, charged with ridiculous crimes ( that Biden wouldn't be prosecuted for) and shot at. Nothing dissuades him from pursuing the Presidency- although it is inarguable he'd be safer and live a more relaxed, happier life if he withdrew from this political race.

Kamala Harris, on the other hand, is an unintelligent, dishonest wannabe who will say anything she feels she has to to win the presidency. She obviously cares nothing for the people she claims to love and only desires accolades for herself. Harris makes statements she KNOWS are untrue- just to push her agenda- and panders to whatever group she happens to be in front of, stopping at nothing ( other than telling the truth) to get to be "Madame" President.

I pray to God that President Donald Trump is victorious this November- our lives may depend on it.

I've long thought that Trump is the Gray Champion this time around, which fact still makes me smile because he seemed so unlikely a candidate. My first awareness of him was from the Taj Mahal and Marla Maples years, and I never watched The Apprentice. I remember him as a presidential candidate in 2000 handing out Trump hand sanitizer (wince).

I agree with you that his instincts are sound, with the whole COVID response process being illustrative of that. Trump's instincts to carry on, keep calm, and stay open for business were exactly right. He just got sandbagged by the goons.

And if you look more closely at him, he's not an asshole beyond crap-talking his critics. He chose not to pursue HRC in the courts, for example. Trump is best described as a thick-hided leader with a sunny disposition and a positive outlook for America. Off the stump, he seems courteous and relatable, which is another reason why I'm glad that he's been going on long-form podcasts. His curious exchange with Theo Von about cocaine ("It'll turn you into a damn owl, homie,") was one for the ages.

Bannon was his Fourth Turning adhering advisor, by the way, but Trump brushed the theory aside, saying it was "too dark."

Have you never met someone from New York? Or Scotland? Trump expresses himself in a combination of these vernaculars and wears the false-bravado of his tribes. He is no different than a trash-talking NBA player, rapper or egotistical corporate manager all of whom could be considered "assholes" in terms of the traditional American sensibilities. The self-promotion is armor against the attacks from inside and out and most people with some common sense and a bit of self-confidence can brush it aside and see that the guy is someone you want on your team.

Sadly, too few people can get past their own insecurities and tribal worship to judge the man fairly. We might only look at the success and class of his children versus those of someone like Biden or Soros to infer the true character of the man, a guy wealthy enough to have done anything he wanted but chose to put a lot of effort into his family.

One aspect to all of this I find humorous is the notion that the press is warning everyone of Trump out of the goodness of their hearts and trying to save the world. Of course, they likely do believe this but isn't it curious that in order to save us they must first censor us from presenting conflicting information or even asking questions. That they cannot reconcile the word 'democracy' with their own anti-democratic behavior really is the mark of insanity. No amount of evidence can penetrate their delusions.

Your premise that we’re democracy is a farce is total pie in the sky stuff. First we’re not a democracy but a republic with a Constitution that lays out the rights of its citizens over those of the state giving the power to its citizens through the power of the vote in electing its representatives.

The country always had these battles between the have and the have nots rich vs poor with the difference being were a nation of law.

The nation has reached a breaking point where those elected to office ignore the law and use the law to criminalize its citizenry and go after there politcal opponents to stay in power. Even to the point of rigging elections and lying to the public yet here we have an election where the fate of the nation is on the hands of the American people who will decide the fate of the nation.

Yes, the Founding Fathers were well aware of the danger of unmediated democracy and rightly feared the volatile passions of the mob. They were very familiar with ancient Greek and Roman history.

The US was deliberately modeled on the Roman Republic because it had endured so long. Executive, upper house, lower house. We don't have exactly the Roman system though. They usually had two Consuls instead of one leader, and the two had to agree on any action. Maybe that's actually a better system.

The Blob, like The Blog, will one day be no more, that's just how it goes, like blobs in the lava lamp of the internet of life...

But I will capture Lugh's quote as it was, Sep 20, before, or in case, they revise it...

There.

And remember to capture the internet before it goes down forever.

"Russia will take back Alaska, etc." perhaps not any more since Ukraine has discovered where Russia shorter range nuke missiles are hidden. Did you see the explosions deep in Russia over the last few nights? according to what I read, nuclear capable missiles were destroyed.

What we are witnessing is mass insanity. I know of no historical pattern so I have no idea what to expect. The left will do everything that they can to destroy us and a goodly portion of the nation will applaud the effort. In truth, those of us who wish not to be ruled by insanity really need to consider leaving the union. We could salvage a part of the great experiment in so doing or lose it all to the destruction of our republic.

The precedent is the 1917 Bolshevik revolution in Russia where the Cliff notes version is that the people who took over ABSOLUTELY HATED the normal every day Russians. Chaos ensued. How is that different from the current situation in the US?

I'd concern myself more with the parasite politicians-- many some would call, 'crackers', incidentally-- who let them and many others in and/or helped it along, and destabilized their countries to boot, through wars, color revolutions, covert operations. and regime changes and so forth.

You know people in America talk about their right to bear arms, such as to defend themselves from political tyranny-- Bill of Rights, Constitution, bla bla bla...

So what are they waiting for?

Maybe the Trump shooters were a shot across the bow, a premonition, an appetizer.

P.B., please, appreciate the courtesy, but Mr. Anselmo is my father. You've read Jim's WMBH is my guess, and maybe Forstchen's One Second After. Point is, society will re-order itself - at least on a very localized level - very quickly. They'll set up the necessary "infrastructure". For the most part, intelligent people are, or should be, in my opinion, self-governing.

To Wit: After the Hurricane Katrina (non) response, small groups were self-organizing, in the medians of the interstates, just outside NOLA. Setting up encampments, easily defensible, women setting up kitchens and cooking. teens watching the kids, men out gathering needed resources. This, all within days, when they realized the Calvary was not coming. There's a lesson there.

The "authorities" busted up and dismantled the camps. Why? Self-governing independent-minded people are a threat to the system. Remember that. They'll be coming after us in the same way they have been - just under a different circumstance. 'Twas ever thus. Keep the faith young lady.

Hey, all this sounds to me just like China at present. Good to know you're not alone in all this, huh? :)

What I find amusing here-- not to mention despairing -- is how so many vids on Youtube either condemn China as a nation guilty of all the above (which she is) while extolling the West as the beacon of democracy and true civilization, or go full wumao by doing the exact opposite. There is no third camp as far as I can tell which spells out the problems on both sides.

So what I might do is make myself a 'cinnamon-raisin toast' with one or two slices...

What I do is first sprinkle a fair bit of cinnamon (thick enough so I can't see the bread), a few grains of salt, especially if the butter is unsalted, a generous helping of sugar on top-- white or brown is fine-- and some shavings of butter on top of that to melt into the topping.

Then, I place it in a toaster oven on broil until the topping browns and bubbles into something of a caramelized topping. Then I take it out, let it cool off a bit, and then enjoy with a cold glass of milk as usual.
